Because of this, it's no surprise that many have found their way into video games. Whether they be assistants to the hero, the damsels in distress, or the main protagonist, plenty of creative fairies have shown up in games over the year of all kinds, and here are some of the best.
9 Nymphs - Rayman Origins
The Nymphs are a fairy species of characters in the Rayman series, though they make their most well-known appearance in Rayman Origins. Each Nymph is captured by a monster and must be rescued by Rayman in a chase sequence. Upon rescuing them, Rayman receives a special power that corresponds to the world he is currently in, such as his signature hover ability and the ability to shrink, among others.
Across Rayman Origins there are five Nymphs to be saved, and when Rayman's journey is reaching its conclusion, all five of them join forces with Rayman to help him defeat the final boss, making them some of the most important characters in the game.
8 Pixie - Shin Megami Tensei
Pixies are a recurring species of demons in Shin Megami Tensei that have been a part of the series since the first game and have appeared in just about every game since. While they may appear innocent, Pixies are often quite mischievous and are known for pulling pranks on humans.
Pixies are usually encountered very early in the game, making them a solid early-game encounter, as they are often one of the earliest party members that can heal. There are also many forms of the pixie that show up later in the game, such as the high pixie, allowing them to be important members of your party long term. Pixies are unquestionably one of the most iconic demons across Shin Megami Tensei, and you can always count on them showing up in a new installment.

The Great Fairies are a recurring set of characters in The Legend of Zelda , dating all the way back to the original Zelda game on NES. In-game, the main purpose of the Great Fairy is to replenish Link during his various journeys. In some games, the Great Fairy gives Link new powers, such as Ocarina of Time, where the Great Fairies provides the powers of the Golden Goddesses, giving him new magic abilities.
The appearance of the Great Fairy varies greatly from game to game. In some games, the great fairy is tiny and has wings, while in others, they are very tall and don't resemble a fairy much at all. While their appearance may vary, their in-game purpose usually stays the same, as does the song of the Great Fairy Fountain, which is always welcome and signifies a resting point in your journey.
6 The Sprixie Princesses - Super Mario 3D World
In most Mario platformers, Mario is tasked with saving Princess Peach. However, in Super Mario 3D World, Bowser is after the Sprixie Princesses of the Sprixie Kingdom, and Mario and his friends go on a quest to save each of them. The Sprixie Princesses are all tiny little fairies with one primary color representing them. As Mario progresses through the game and saves a Sprixie at the end of each world, they build clear warp pipes that allow him to transport to the next world, giving them an in-game purpose aside from being the damsels in distress which is a nice change of pace for the series.
While they have made a few appearances in games like Mario Tennis, it has been a while since they had a major inclusion in a Mario game. Hopefully, they can one day become a major spin-off character like Rosalina or Pauline.
5 Lip - Panel De Pon
The protagonist of the Japan-exclusive puzzle game Panel De Pon, Lip is a tiny fairy who is on a quest to save her fellow fairy friends from Thanatos and save the land of Popples. She does this by mastering Panel De Pon and besting her possessed friends and the monsters who cursed them in it. Lip is memorable for her determination; she is set on saving her friends and wants to become great at Panel De Pon, making her a relatable character for those wanting to master this tough-as-nails puzzle game.
While Panel De Pon remained exclusive to Japan, Lip made cameos in a handful of other high-profile Nintendo releases, most notably Super Smash Bros. , where her magic wand has been an item in every game since Melee, and she was a spirit in Ultimate. He is very short, featuring a big pointy nose and a lantern hanging from it.
In the game, Drippy's personality is rather snarky. He often times makes sarcastic remarks about what is currently happening and loves to remind others that he is the High Lord of the fairies. While he jokes a lot, he is a great partner to Oliver and is a crucial character in Ni No Kuni.

The first ever fairy-type Pokemon to be introduced to the franchise was Sylveon, and to this day, it is still one of the most beloved fairy types of them all.
Being an evolution of Eevee, Sylveon can be obtained by teaching an Eevee a fairy move and leveling it up when its friendship levels hit a certain point. It goes without saying but Sylveon is an adorable Pokemon and has become one of the most popular evolutions of Eevee in the series. 1 Navi - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Without a doubt, one of the most recognizable faires across all of gaming, Navi is a character that has left an impact on gaming fans for decades. Acting as Link's guardian fairy, Navi guides him throughout his adventure in Hyrule, helping him progress throughout the game and giving him one of his most important abilities in Z-targeting, something that has remained a constant in every 3D Zelda game since.
Navi was also the first ever companion character in the series, and many major Zelda games following Ocarina of Time included faeries such as Tat’l, Midna, Fi, and several others. While some players may get tired of hearing "Hey, listen!"
