In the Hook, Line & Inker update, the fishing mechanic of Don't Starve Together was overhauled to include Ocean Fish. No longer is there just the plain Fish and a slimy Eel, but 18 fancy new Fish that can only be caught using the Sea Fishing Rod.

This new tool requires Bait (Rot, Fruit, or Seeds) or a Lure to increase the likelihood of catching certain fish, depending on which of the four Ocean biomes (Coastal, Swell, Rough, or Hazardous) you're in and the time of year.

18 Needlenosed Squirt

One of the most common Ocean fish, the Needlenosed Squirt can be seen in small shoals in a Coastal Ocean. They are attracted using any food Bait and the appropriate Spoon Lure, depending on the time of day. When killed, it drops a Fish Morsel.

Needlenosed Squirts tend to dart away from the player's Rod quickly, and can be difficult to reel in without losing your Bait.

17 Smolt Fry

Another very common small Coastal fish, dropping only a Fish Morsel for the Crock Pot, and possibly the easiest for a newbie to catch .

Any Fruit or Seed as Bait will draw them in, as well as Spoon Lures, any weather Lure, the Heavy Weighted Lure, FPS games story guide or the Stupefying Lure. The latter three can be used to entice any Ocean Fish.

16 Popperfish

Sticking near the Coast, this small Fish resembles Popcorn, and even acts like it in a Crock Pot . Popperfishes could be related to Corn Cods, which opens up a whole new barrel of worms.

It can be used in place of a Vegetable when attempting any recipes, and is only attracted to Fruits and Seeds, or a Stupefying Lure, on the hook.

15 Bloomfin Tuna

A pretty looking fish, the Bloomfin Tuna is available during Spring in Coastal waters. Their loot drop is a Leafy Meat, suggesting this isn't a fish at all, and Wormwood even considers it a friend.

Seeds, Fruit, and the Stupefying Lure work to catch it. When caught it can be traded with Pearl for a Rainy Day Lure Advert.

14 Runty Guppy

This runt is uncommonly found in Coastal and Swell Ocean biomes. It's attracted to any Bait or Lure, aside from Spinnerbait, which is primarily used for Medium-sized fish.

As Wilson states, "Looks like the runt of its school". Its max weight is only 60.3, so it's not surprising it will only drop a Fish Morsel.

13 Mudfish

An ugly fish uncommonly found in Coastal waters, but if you sail out a little, they're more common in the Swell biome. It's the biggest fish available along the Coast and FPS games strategy drops a Fish Steak, which counts as 0.5 x Meat and 1 x Fish in a Crock Pot.

It is attracted to all Bait and Lures. Two Fish Steaks and some Large Meat make the very nutritious Surf 'n' Turf dish , which is Wickerbottom's favorite.

12 Bitty Baitfish

This fish isn't interested in Fruit or Seeds as Bait, and requires any of the Lures (aside from Spinnerbait) or some Rot. It's rare to find, but swims in Coastal, Swell, and Rough Ocean biomes. It will only drop a Fish Morsel so it's not really worth catching a whole shoal.

If there's Meat floating in the water, a Bitty Baitfish will jump up and eat it, so get there first.

11 Fallounder

The Fallounder is another fish that's not technically a fish, but rather a plant, as it drops Leafy Meat when killed. As its name suggests, it can only be found in Autumn and is common in the Swell Ocean biome, characterized by its dark green waters.

Use Seeds or Fruit to reel in one of these, as Spoon and Spinnerbait Lures won't help. This fish is particularly useful when traded with Pearl, netting you a Stupefying Lure Advert. When attached to your Sea Fishing Rod, this Lure works to make every Ocean Fish reel in more quickly - a very useful addition.

10 Scorching Sunfish

Now this is a fish you don't want to leave on your very flammable Boat for long. As usual, Hanhsi.Com Klei is quite literal when it comes to naming its mobs, so expect the Scorching Sunfish to act as a 70-degree heat source whether you're holding it in your inventory, or leaving it on the floor. If your Boat catches on fire and loses all 200 Health, you're going to need to revive yourself on land.

This might sound useful in the colder seasons, but unfortunately, this Fish only spawns in the Swell Ocean in Summer. Upon dying, it will drop a readily Cooked Fish Morsel. As one of the most dangerous fish to catch, why even take the risk? Well, if you want the recipe to craft a Heavy Weighted Lure, then Pearl is going to need a fiery morsel in return. Use one of these to catch the heaviest fish in the Ocean.

9 Spittlefish

In answer to the Scorching Sunfish, the Spittlefish is here to help. When they detect a fire, on a Boat or on Land, they send up a bubble of water to extinguish it. Though you'll be hard-pressed to happen upon a shoal of Spittlefish as they're very particular about what draws them out.

Gangs of Sea Weeds pop up in Rough Ocean in three different colors, and spew out pollen every one to four minutes, depending on the color. Their pollen acts like Fish Food, and new shoals of Fish will appear around them, including Spittlefish. They prefer Seeds and Fruits as opposed to the basic Lures, and once caught can be used in two Crafting Recipes, the Fire Pump and Wigfrid's Fireproof Falsetto . Very much worth the hassle.
